Kincade, Volleyball Look To Open Championship Finish vs. Harvard, Dartmouth
November 06, 2014 | Women's Volleyball
A spectacular Saturday night in two cities left the Princeton women's volleyball in position to have a championship finish to its Ivy League season. The road to that finish is lined with teams that have already beaten the Tigers on this 2014 journey, which includes both of the opponents for this final home weekend of the season.
It is also Senior Weekend, when Princeton will honor the five members of its Class of 2015 (Sarah Hanna, Francie Jenkins, Nicole Kincade, Ginny Willis, Tiana Woolridge) prior to its Saturday match with Dartmouth. Both Hanna and Jenkins are co-captains, while both Willis and Woolridge have been All-Ivy League players.
As for Kincade, the focus of the interview above, she is having the best season of her career. She is among the Ivy League leaders in both hitting percentage and blocks, and she is third on the team with 2.54 kills per set. To see the interview, hit the play link in the photo.

EYE ON THE PRIZE
Princeton is currently alone in third place in the Ivy League with a 7-3 league mark, while both Harvard and Yale are tied at the top with 8-2 records. Princeton plays both over the final two weekends, meaning it can assure itself at least a tie for the league championship with a 4-0 finish.

I'M HONORED
Freshman Kelly Matthews earned her first individual league award this week when she was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. She averaged 2.7 kills and 4.3 digs per set during victories over both Columbia and Cornell. She had a career-high 11 kills in the win over Cornell, and she hit .400 (11-1-25) during the 3-0 win; one night earlier, she recorded a career-best 22 digs in a 3-1 win over Columbia.
WITH HONORS
While Matthews picked up the Rookie of the Week award, the two players who have earned the most Player of the Week honors will meet Friday night. Princeton junior Kendall Peterkin has won the award a league-best five times, while Harvard sophomore setter/hitter Corinne Bain has won it three times, including last week.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Kendall Peterkin leads the Ivy League and ranks ninth nationally with 5.33 points per set, and she leads the Ivy League and ranks 13th nationally with 4.62 kills per set. Sophomore Lauren Miller leads the Ivy League with 10.89 assists per set, and sophomore middle Brittany Ptak ranks third in the league with a .333 hitting percentage.
TRYING AGAIN
Princeton's only winless weekend of the season came during the first Dartmouth-Harvard weekend. The Tigers rallied from a 2-0 deficit in Hanover, but fell 15-11 in the fifth set, and the Crimson defeated Princeton in three sets in Boston.
THE CRYSTAL BALL
Princeton will complete its regular season next weekend when it heads to Yale and Brown. Princeton fell 3-0 to Yale in its only home loss of the Ivy season, and it rallied from three match points against to defeat Brown 21-19 in a thrilling fifth set.
