PRINCETON, N.J. (1/10/15) - Princeton scored three power-play goals in a 5-1 win over Brown to earn a weekend sweep on Saturday, Jan. 10 at Hobey Baker Rink.
Sophomore Molly Contini and junior Kelsey Koelzer had three-point nights, while sophomore Kiersten Falck and senior Ali Pankowski had two points apiece. Freshman Alysia DaSilva made a career high 23 saves in her third win of the season.
Brown took a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period. Princeton came out with a purpose in the second and scored five straight goals en route to the win.
Ariana Rucker fought for the puck along the back boards, pushed it up the ice and into the slot for Brittany Moorehead who fired on cage. The shot was stopped but the rebound bounced free and Maddie Wood was positioned at the right pipe and was able to knock it home.
The Tigers scored twice in 1:52 to gain the lead midway through the second.
Princeton converted its first power-play opportunity at 11:02 with junior Jaimie McDonell from Pankowski and Contini. Contini was on the right extended red and found Pankowski open in the high slot. Pankowski sent the puck down the center and McDonnell redirected it for the goal.
Senior Brianna Leahy brought the puck up the right boards, got tangled up with the two Brown players, before Falck came in to help. Falck got the puck to Koelzer and she skated into the right circle and flipped the puck towards the net.
Five minutes later it was a 3-1 game with Contini tallying her first of two goals on the afternoon. She redirected a shot by sophomore Molly Strabley on the left point after she received a blue-line pass from Koelzer.
At the end of the second, Rucker received a five-minute major for checking from behind and a game misconduct leading Princeton to have a player advantage for the first five minutes of the third.
The Tigers scored one power-play goal on that penalty as Falck scored her second goal of the season. Defenders Brianne Mahoney and Pankowski assisted on Falck's goal that sailed over the shoulder of netminder Monica Elvin.
Contini capped off the scoring with a power-play goal at 17:21 with Koelzer and Lloyd picking up the helpers. Lloyd fought for the puck off a draw with Koelzer having to track it down, collect it and skate back up the right side. She came around the back of the goal and gave it to Contini who was on the doorstep to tap it in.
Princeton was 3 for 5 on the power play and 6 for 6 on the penalty kill.
Elvin made 15 saves in net for Brown, as the Bears had a slight 24-20
The Tigers improve to 10-9-1 overall, 8-6 in the ECAC and 4-1 in the Ivy League.
Princeton will take a two-week hiatus for exams and semester break, and return on Monday, Jan 26 with a road game at No. 1 Boston College.
