Caruso Named Ivy League and Suburban Transit Player of the Week
January 12, 2015 | Men's Basketball
Henry Caruso was a spark off the bench for the Princeton men's basketball team in two games over the past week, and he's both the Ivy League and Suburban Transit GoPrincetonTigers.com Player of the Week for his efforts.
The Ivy award is the first for Caruso and first Ivy Player of the Week honor of the season for Princeton, which last had a Player of the Week winner on March 3, 2014 from T.J. Bray '14.
Caruso, a sophomore, has scored all but three of his career points this season, a run that includes three double-figure scoring games. Two of those came over the past week, with 14 against Norfolk State on Jan. 6 and 23 against Penn on Jan. 10. His only previous double-figure game was against UTEP on Nov. 27, when he had 15 points.
Against Norfolk State, Caruso scored a point a minute and grabbed five rebounds, going four of six from the field and 1 of 1 from distance while making 5 of 7 from the stripe. He more than doubled his free throw totals four nights later in 28 minutes of play against Penn, going 14 of 16 from the line while repeating his 4-of-6, 1-of-1 stat line from the field and grabbing six rebounds.
Princeton won both games, 71-61 over Norfolk State and 78-74 over Penn in comeback fashion, erasing a 15-point second-half deficit to open 1-0 in the Ivy League.
Caruso and his teammates are in final exams for the next two weeks and will hit the court again on Jan. 25 for the annual post-finals game, this year against Rowan at 2 p.m. in Jadwin Gym.
