For First Time in 46 Years, Men's Hoops to Play a Game in Dillon Gym
October 02, 2015 | Men's Basketball
In a nod to the Princeton men's basketball program's rich history, the 2015-16 Tigers will open their home season Nov. 21 at Dillon Gym, the program's home from 1947-69, when Saint Peter's comes to campus.
The game will have a 9 p.m. start. It will be the first time since Jan. 11, 1969, that Princeton has played a game in Dillon. Two weeks after that date, the Tigers opened Jadwin with a win over Penn, and the five-level building with its unique three-sectioned white dome roof has been the program's home ever since.
Dillon, still the home of Princeton's wrestling and volleyball matches, opened in 1947 as a rebuilt version of University Gym, which was the team's home from 1903 until 1944.
The game will also serve as a Coaches vs. Cancer awareness game, as both Princeton coach Mitch Henderson and St. Peter's coach John Dunne are active in the organization that works with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to increase awareness about the fight against cancer. The ACS will have a representative at the game to distribute information about its work toward that goal.
Here are answers to some questions you might have about the program's one-time return to Dillon.
Where can I get tickets?
Season ticket holders will have the option to buy one ticket per season ticket package at a cost of $25 per ticket. Season tickets will be available for renewal and purchase on October 7 by going to GoPrincetonTigers.com/tickets, or by calling 609-258-4TIX(4849).
More information on where and when students can pick up tickets will be sent via email to all students at a later date.
Where will I park?
Parking will be available free of charge in the West Garage, and lots 16, 20, 23 and 32, all located just a short walk south of Dillon Gym. There will be handicapped accessibility in the lot in front of Dillon Gym.
What if I can't be there?
The game will be streamed live online on the Ivy League Digital Network. Sign up here. We'll also have live stats and tweets at @putigers_live.
How about throwback jerseys?
Yes, the Tigers will have special uniforms for the contest. Keep an eye out on GoPrincetonTigers.com, @PUTIGERS on Twitter and PrincetonAthletics on Instagram for photos. No, those uniforms will not include the short shorts of yesteryear.
