St. Lawrence Slips by No. 10 Princeton 3-2

CANTON, N.Y. (11/20/15) - No. 10 Princeton women's hockey rally fell a goal short as the Tigers dropped a 3-2 game to St. Lawrence on Friday night at Appleton Arena.
The Tigers fell behind two goals in the first period but quickly made up for it with two quick tallies, just 33 seconds part. It was a third period goal by Kennedy Marchment that was the difference maker, with the game winner coming with 18:150.
A 4x4 goal, Marchment was in relentless pursuit of th goal as she fought off a defender on her way to the goal and put the puck between the near post and Princeton goalie Kimberly Newell. Amanda Boulier received credit with the assist, on a pass from the left faceoff circle.
Amanda McClure opened the scoring for the Saints with a shot from the slot that made its way through traffic just 1:32 into the game. Justin Reyes made it 2-0 with a cut across the crease and then tucking the puck under the cross bar at 10:49.
Less than two minutes later Cassidy Tucker answered with her third goal of the season. It came on Princeton's first power-play opportunity of the game, with junior Kelsey Koelzer and freshman Karlie Lund assisting. Lund knotted the game at two with her team-leading fifth goal of the season. She grabbed the puck from junior Hilary Lloyd and made a quick rush up the ice for the score on Sonjia Shelly.
Shelly finished her night with 25 saves as the Saints improve to 7-6-1 overall and 4-1 in the league, with their seventh win in eight games. Newell stopped 21 shots on the opposite end.
The Tigers had a 27-24 edge of the Saints in shots on goal and finsihed the game 1 for 4 on the power play and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill. Princeton is now 39 for 41 on the penalty kill, ranking fourth in the nation at 95.1 percent.
Princeton, now 5-3-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in the ECAC, looks to regain its footing tomorrow afternoon when it takes on No. 4 Clarkson at 4 p.m.
