In a thriller in Jadwin, Princeton scored the last 11 points to save senior night and beat Columbia 85-83 Saturday night. Hans Brase had a career-high 23 points, but the win wasn't secure until Maodo Lo's last-second attempt hit backboard twice and rim twice and didn't fall. Lo had an incredible performance, scoring 37 points while going 11 of 15 from 3-point range. Though Princeton outshot Columbia 56.8 percent to 48.3 percent and went to the free-throw line 39 times (making 30) to Columbia's 15 (making 14), the Lions balanced that out by outrebounding Princeton 30-22 and nailing 13 3-pointers, the most Princeton has surrendered in five years. |

• Princeton has a six-game home win streak against the Quakers, but The Palestra has been a little more difficult for the Tigers. Penn has won two of the last three against Princeton on its home floor, but both of those games were the January meetings. The Tigers have won the last four March visits to The Palestra and haven't lost there in March since 2002. (Princeton and Penn played the March game at Jadwin annually from 2005-08.)
• Princeton and Penn will match two of the three Ivy coaches who are coaching their alma mater, with Jerome Allen for the Quakers and Mitch Henderson for the Tigers. Mike Martin at Brown is the other. Allen won both head-to-head meetings in the only year he and Henderson overlapped on the court, in 1994-95, but Henderson has won five of the seven meetings with the two as head coaches.
• Though an Ivy League title isn't at stake for Princeton Tuesday night, a winning season is. A win would put Princeton at 16-14, guaranteeing a sixth straight winning season. The Tigers already clinched a winning Ivy season by holding off Columbia Saturday night, extending Princeton's winning Ivy season streak to seven years, the longest active in the league.
• Princeton has clinched a third-place finish in the Ivy, making Princeton the only team to finish in the top three in the league in each of the last seven years. Harvard, Yale and Princeton have been the top three teams for the last three seasons counting 2015, the first time since 1977-79 (Penn, Princeton, Columbia) that the same three clubs have held the top three spots (or tied) for three straight years.
• The Tigers are the only team in the Ivy that can return all five starters next season, as defined by the five players with the most starts for each team this season. Princeton's seniors have accounted for 16.7 percent of the team's points, the second-lowest percentage in the Ivy and higher than only Penn, at 10.5 percent. The other six percentages, in ascending order, are Brown (19.7), Dartmouth (23.6), Columbia (23.8), Yale (47.3), Harvard (52.9) and Cornell (63.0).
• Amir Bell enters Tuesday second on the team in assists, with 74, three behind Spencer Weisz. If Bell finishes the season leading the team in assists, he'd be the first freshman to lead the team in that category since 2006-07, when Marcus Schroeder '10 had a team-best 87 helpers.
• Against Columbia, Bell surpassed Spencer Weisz's point total of 262 from last season, now with 265 points this year. He is now Princeton's highest-scoring freshman since Douglas Davis '12, who scored 333 points in 2008-09. Between Bell and Davis on the all-time Princeton freshman scoring list are Brian Earl '99 (268), Sydney Johnson '97 (273) and John Smyth '86 (319). Only two freshmen scored more than Davis, Spencer Gloger '05 (336) and Chris Young '02 (387).
• The Tigers take 46 percent of their field goal tries from beyond the arc and have taken 646 total 3-point attempts this year. A year ago, Princeton rolled past the previous record of 681, set by Mitch Henderson's senior-year team in 1998, hoisting 774 3s last season.
• The change in year has been a positive change for the Tigers during Mitch Henderson's tenure. In the pre-New Year portion of Henderson's four seasons, the Tigers have a record of 27-25 for a .519 winning percentage. From New Year's Day forward, the Tigers under Henderson are 46-21 with a .687 winning percentage.
• Penn's visit to Princeton required a Tiger comeback on Jan. 10. The Tigers trailed by 15, 58-43, with 13-plus minutes to go before going on a 21-5 run to take a lead at 64-63 less than eight minutes later, Princeton's first lead of the half. Princeton had to overcome Penn shooting 62 percent in the first half (Princeton shot 47.6 percent), holding the Quakers to 40 percent after the break (Princeton again shot 47.6 percent). The Tigers also got to the line 26 times in the second half to just 11 for Penn.
• Tuesday's game will match the top-ranked team in the Ivy by 3-point field goal percentage, with Princeton's .373, with the eighth-ranked 3-point field goal percentage defense, with Penn at .371. In the first meeting this season, Princeton went 6 of 14 from distance, a .429 clip. However, Princeton only tried 14 3-pointers, tied for the fewest attempts this season (tried 14 later vs. Brown) for a team that averages 22 3 tries a game.
• Princeton is now 13-0 this season when getting to the free-throw line more often than its opponent. Most recently, the Tigers took 39 tries from the stripe Saturday night against Columbia while the Lions had just 15. Princeton was able to do that against Penn, taking 43 tries on the night to just 14 for Penn.
• Princeton has had eight players lead the team in scoring in a game this season. Hans Brase had the honors Saturday night against Columbia, the first time he'd led the team in scoring since the first Columbia game last month. Henry Caruso led Princeton in scoring against Penn with 23 points in the game at Jadwin in January, one of two times this season (along with the visit from Yale) that he's led the team in scoring in a game.
• Saturday's 85-point effort lifted Princeton over Yale to become the highest-scoring team in the league at 68.7 ppg. Princeton also leads the Ivy in field goal percentage (.461), 3-point FG percentage (.373), and defensive rebounding percentage (.737).
• Princeton's usual starting lineup of late includes no seniors, but junior Hans Brase, sophomores Steven Cook, Spencer Weisz and Henry Caruso, and freshman Amir Bell. Six Quakers have had 126 of the team's 135 starts, and Tony Hicks, Darien Nelson-Henry, Matt Howard and Greg Louis have each started at least 24 of Penn's 26 games, while Antonio Woods and Darnell Foreman have started 14 and 16 games. Among those six Quakers are two freshmen in Foreman and Woods, a sophomore in Howard, two juniors in Hicks and Nelson-Henry and a senior in Louis.
• Through Saturday's games, Princeton ranked 25th in the nation in 3s per game at 8.3. The team ranked in the national top 100 in seven statistical categories, with its next-highest ranking at 42nd in total 3-pointers made at 241. Between them, Hans Brase, Pete Miller and Steven Cook were included in the national rankings (approximately the national top 250 players in each category) nine times. Hans Brase had the highest ranking, at 41st in defensive rebounds per game (6.14).
• Four of Princeton's top five scorers on average are non-seniors, including sophomore Spencer Weisz, junior Hans Brase, sophomore Steven Cook, and freshman Amir Bell, with sophomore Pete Miller 0.6 ppg behind senior Clay Wilson for fifth. The last time the Tigers finished the season with no seniors among the top five in scoring was 2009-10, when sophomore Douglas Davis, junior Dan Mavraides, freshman Ian Hummer, junior Kareem Maddox and sophomore Patrick Saunders were in the top five.
• While seniors Ben Hazel and Clay Wilson are regular rotation players, seniors have accounted for just 18.2 percent of minutes and 16.7 percent of the points this season on the whole.
• Sophomore Spencer Weisz is leading the team in scoring at 11.5 ppg, 0.3 ppg in front of junior Hans Brase. The last sophomore (or younger) to end the season leading the team in scoring was in the 2009-10 season when Douglas Davis '12 averaged 12.7 ppg. Since: Kareem Maddox '11 in 2010-11, Ian Hummer '13 in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and T.J. Bray '14 in 2013-14.
• In 59 Ivy League seasons including 2015, Princeton has now posted 53 winning Ivy seasons, four 7-7 finishes and just two losing records.

• Princeton and Penn both swept Columbia and Cornell over the weekend, and the sweeps were the first Ivy weekend sweeps for each team. The wins broke a seven-game skid for Penn, which started the Ivy season 2-2 with wins over Cornell and Dartmouth and losses to Princeton and Harvard.
• Through Saturday's games, Penn's highest national statistical ranking is 123rd in fewest fouls, with 536 whistles this year. Tony Hicks and Antonio Woods combined for four top-250 statistical rankings with Woods' 3.8 assists per game the highest of the four at 156th.
• Tony Hicks is the only Quaker averaging double-figure points, at 13.5 ppg. Three more Penn players, Darien Nelson-Henry, Matt Howard and Antonio Woods, each average between 8.6 and 8.4 points per game.

| Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fourth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 73-46. Under Henderson, Princeton is 41-11 at home, 36-19 in the Ivy League, and 23-5 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 57-16 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first three campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Luehring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list, having surpassed John Thompson III '88 with the win over Brown on Feb. 13, 2014. Bill Carmody, who was a Princeton assistant for Henderson's first two seasons and head coach for Henderson's last two, is in sixth place with 92 wins. Carmody hired Henderson as an assistant coach at Northwestern in 2000, where Henderson remained for 11 seasons until coming to Princeton. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, current San Diego Padre Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). |
