Skyelar Ettin, a Princeton native and an alumnus of The College of New Jersey, has joined the Princeton men's basketball staff as its Director of Basketball Operations.
"This is a natural fit for us," Mitch Henderson, the Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 head coach of Princeton men's basketball, said. "Skye has been around the program and knows what we like to do. From the first time that I met Skye, I knew he would be good here as he's got local connections from playing at Princeton High School and a strong work ethic. And having just left the the college environment, he also has a close ties to the commitment it takes from the guys on day-to-day basis."
Ettin has served as a staff intern since the spring of 2014 before taking on his new role. While at TCNJ, Ettin played in 97 games over his four seasons, starting 63 in all and more than 20 each in his sophomore and senior seasons. A three-year captain, Ettin averaged 8.4 points per game over his career. In his senior season, TCNJ qualified for the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament for the first time since 2009 and had its most wins in a season, 15, since 2006.
A Princeton High School alum, Ettin attended Princeton's summer basketball camps as a player and later worked the camps as a counselor. He also played against Princeton twice during the Tigers' annual post-finals game, scoring a team-high 15 points as a freshman in 2012 and playing a team-high 26 minutes in the following year's game.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to remain with the Princeton basketball family and be a part of Coach Henderson's staff,” Ettin said. “It is an honor to work for an institution with such a great mix of academics as well as athletics. Having grown up right in Princeton, I understand the rich tradition as well as the history of the program. Coach Henderson and his staff have created a great vision for the team and I am excited for what the future holds.”
In addition to his internship with the Princeton basketball staff, Ettin has served as assistant director of a Philadelphia 76ers basketball camp and has worked with the Gazelle Group in Princeton, the Nike EYBL and MADE Hoops youth basketball leagues, the Princeton and Montgomery High School basketball teams, as a substitute teacher for Princeton Regional Schools, and as a sales representative for the USA Football Player Academy.
As the Director of Basketball Operations, Ettin's duties will include organizing the team's travel and itinerary as well as assisting the coaching staff in-game, coordinating the team's summer camps, recruiting visits and film exchange.
