Weisz, Brase Head to Europe for Summer Competition
June 19, 2015 | Men's Basketball
Rising senior Hans Brase and rising junior Spencer Weisz are taking their games to Europe this summer while competing with the national-team programs of Germany and Israel.
Brase, who has competed with the German U-20 and German second national teams during his previous summers at Princeton, will return to the German second national team for a series of games culminating at the World University Games in South Korea. On the way, Brase and the German A-2 squad will play against national teams from Russia, Italy, Belgium and Switzerland between June 18 and 26 before heading to South Korea. The World University games will run June 29 through July 15 with Germany in a group with China, Estonia, Angola, South Korea and Mozambique before the knockout rounds begin.
Weisz is set to play in a tournament in which Brase played two years ago, the U-20 European Championship, July 7-19 in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy, on the north coast of that country east of Venice. Israel is in a group with Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Latvia.
The pair were Princeton's top two scorers a season ago, Weisz edging out Brase 11.6 points per game to 11.5. Weisz, a second-team All-Ivy League pick, was eighth in the league in scoring and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (.408), while Brase was ninth in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounding (7.5 rpg). Weisz and Brase head a group of returners for the 2015-16 season that include Princeton's top four scorers and five of its top six.
