Paulson, Tigers Second at Ivy Heps
October 29, 2016 | Men's Cross Country
Princeton junior William Paulson was just four seconds off the win at the Ivy League Heptagonal cross country meet Saturday afternoon at West Windsor Fields as the Tiger men finished second in the team tote.
Yale's James Randon won the title in 23:47 with Paulson runner-up in 23:51 and rookie Conor Lundy third in 23:53. While the Tigers had two of the top three finishers and three of the top six with William Bertrand sixth in 24:01, Penn put its scoring five in the top 12 to hold off second-place Princeton 38-51. Paulson, who didn't race in last year's meet or as a freshman in 2013, was 21st as a sophomore in 2014.
None of the Tigers' top four Saturday, including Paulson, Lundy, Bertrand and Viraj Deokar (14th), competed in last year's Heps meet, when the Tigers were fifth, 30 points behind winner Columbia.
The Tigers will compete again Nov. 11 at Penn State at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. Team standings and Princeton's results from Saturday's meet are below, and complete results are available here.
Team standings: 1. Penn 38, 2. Princeton 51, 3. Columbia 81, 4. Dartmouth 115, 5. Yale 118, 6. Cornell 147, 7. Brown 158, 8. Harvard 194.
