PRINCETON, N.J. (11/2/16) - Princeton hosts alumni weekend this weekend when it hosts St. Lawrence in its home opener at Hobey Baker Rink on Friday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. The Tigers will unveil their 2016 Ivy League championship banner prior to Friday night's game. On Saturday, the Tigers host Clarkson on at 3 p.m., on "Denna Day." The program will be selling #14strong beanies and having a chuck-a-puck during the second intermission with all proceeds going to The Denna Laing Fund.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton remains unbeaten at 3-0-1 after topping Brown 4-0 and tying Yale 1-1 on the road last week to open ECAC Hockey action. The Tigers are ranked 10th in this week's USCHO national poll. Three players have five points in five games including last year's leading scorer and the league's reigning Rookie of the Year Karlie Lund who has scored four times and adds one assist. Senior Molly Contini has the most goals, three, and chips in two assists. Senior Cassidy Tucker, who scored the game-tying goal against Yale with 1:29 left in regulation now has two tallies and three helpers. Junior Kiersten Falck and sophomore defender Stephanie Sucharda both have a team-high four assists apiece. Junior Alysia DaSilva owns every decision and has a .939 save percentage and a 1.47 goals against average – stopping 93 of 99 shots. Princeton average 4.00 goals per game and is allowing just 1.50 gpg. The power play is 5 for 29 (17.2 percent) while the penalty kill is 18 for 21 (85.7 percent).
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
???????St. Lawrence is unbeaten at 7-0-1 which includes matching shutouts over Dartmouth, 2-0 and Harvard, 4-0 last weekend. Three players are already in double digits in scoring as the squad averages 3.38 goals per game. Junior Kennedy Marchment has 17 points on six goals and 11 assists. Senior Brooke Webster has 13 points on six goals and seven assists and junior Hannah Miller has 12 points on five goals and seven assists. Sophomore Grace Harrison has played every minute in goal and has a .936 save percentage and a 1.36 GAA. The Saints power play scores at a clip of 14.3 percent (5/35), while the penalty kill is 92.1 percent (35/38).
THE PRINCETON/ST. LAWRENCE SERIES
Princeton has a 31-26-3 edge in the series with St. Lawrence. The teams have split the series each of the last three seasons before meeting in the post season for a three-game series last year. Princeton is seeking revenge for losing in a three-game series in overtime.
Clarkson is 6-3-1 and ranked eighth in the nation. The team opened with a pair of wins over Penn State on more than a month ago (Sept. 30 and Oct. 1) before going 0-3-1 against St. Lawrence and Wisconsin. The team has since rebounded with a four-game win streak with matching 3-1 wins over UNH, a 4-0 shutout of Harvard and a 6-1 victory over Dartmouth. Senior Carly Mercer leads the offense with 10 points in 10 games on four goals and six assists. Junior defender Savannah Harmon and senior Genevieve Bannon have eight points each, while sophomores Rhyen McGill and Loren Gabel have seven. Junior Shea Tiley has played in all but 12 minutes and has a .928 save percentage and a 1.83 goals against average. The Golden Knights are averaging 2.90 goals per game, and are 9 for 59 on the power play (15.3 percent) and are 46 for 54 on the penalty kill (85.2 percent).
THE PRINCETON/CLARKSON SERIES
Princeton holds a slight 14-13-2 edge in the all-time series with Clarkson. The Golden Knights have had the better luck recently, winning the last four games in the series. The Tigers last win was a 4-1 game in Feb. 2013 in Potsdam.
