PRINCETON, N.J. (11/10/16) - The Princeton women's hockey team continues its quest to retain the Ivy League trophy when it travels to Harvard and Dartmouth this weekend, Nov. 11 and 12. The Crimson host the Tigers on Friday night at 6 p.m., before the Big Green welcome Princeton on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton is 3-2-1 and ranked No. 10 in the nation. The Tigers lost to St. Lawrence and Clarkson last weekend, both ranked teams and are 1-2-1 in the ECAC. Princeton averages 3.17 goals per game and is holding teams to 2.17. They are 6 for 33 on the power play and 28 for 34 on the penalty kill. Sophomore Karlie Lund leads the team in scoring, for the second straight season. She has four goals and three assists for seven points. Senior Cassidy Tucker has two goals and four assists, while seniors Molly Contini, Morgan Sly, Kelsey Koelzer and junior Kiersten Falck all have five points apiece. Sophomore Stephanie Sucharda has been a contributor from the blue line with four helpers. Junior Alysa DaSilva has a 1.98 goals against average and a .930 save percentage with a 159 total saves this season.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard is off to a rough start at 1-2 after falling to both Clarkson and St. Lawrence by matching 4-0 shutouts on Halloween weekend. The team opened with a 5-1 win over Dartmouth and did not play last weekend. Senior Sydney Daniels has three goals while freshman Val Turgeon has net one goal and adds one assist. Junior Lexie Laing has one goal, while five others have one assist, including goaltender Brianna Laing. Laing has a .915 save percentage and a 2.50 GAA having faced both Dartmouth and St. Lawrence. Senior Molly Tissenbaum faced Clarkson and made 33 saves on 37 shots. The Crimson are averaging 1.67 goals per game while allowing 3.00. They are 2 for 13 on the power play and 13 for 16 on the penalty kill.
THE PRINCETON/HARVARD SERIES
The Crimson hold a 47-31-4 lead in the all-time series with Princeton and have had the better of luck when playing in Boston at 29-13-1. The teams have split the series the last two seasons, with Harvard taking both games at Bright-Landry and Princeton winning the last two at Hobey Baker.
Dartmouth is in search of its first win of the season after opening 0-4 with losses to Northeastern and Harvard at home and to St. Lawrence and Clarkson on the road. They had a rare off weekend last weekend. The team averages 0.50 goals per game and is allowing 4.00. The power play is 1 for 17 while the penalty kill is 13 for 17. Sophomore defender Tess Bracken and freshman Christina Rombaut are the two lone goal scorers, while senior Kennedy Ottenbreit, sophomore Alyssa Baker and freshman Bailee Brekke have one assist apiece. Senior Robyn Chemago and sophomore Christie Honor have split time in goal. Chemago has an .889 save percentage and a 3.53 GAA, while Honor has similar numbers with an. .879 save percentage and a 4.04 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/DARTMOUTH SERIES
Princeton leads the all-time series with Dartmouth 42-31-6 since the teams first met during the 1979-80 season. The Tigers went 18-1 through that first decade of competition with the Big Green. Last year the Tigers swept Dartmouth by matching 4-1 scores and are unbeaten in the last six meetings at 5-0-1. Dartmouth's last win over Princeton was on Jan. 12, 2013, a 6-2 game.
