Results
Freshman Conor Lundy ran a superb race to finish third overall at the 2016 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, and guided the Tigers to a third-place finish at Penn State.
Lundy was the top freshman finisher in the region posting a time of 30:48 on the 10k course. Lundy has automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships due to his finish, being one of the top four finishers not on an advancing team.
"I'm really proud of how Conor competed today and I couldn't be happier for him that he will be running at the NCAA Championships," head coach Jason Vigilante said. "He's the first Tiger to finish in the top three at Regionals since 2012, and the only freshmen to ever do so. Not only that but we showed a lot of promise for our future; we ran four freshman today and two upperclassmen who each earned all-region honors. We were third overall as a team without William Paulson, our No. 1 man from Ivy Heps, so I'm happy with the result."
Senior captain William Betrand ran 31:00 to take ninth.
Princeton was the only team in the region to have three freshmen finish in the top 45 as freshmen Viraj Deokar was the No. 3 runner, taking 18th at 31:14. Senior Noah Kauppila was 22nd at 31:19 followed by freshman Gannon Willcutts at 31:42.
Freshman Gavin Gaynor and sophomore Jeremy Spiezio were the No. 6 and 7 runners, clocking 31:58 and 32:17, respectively.
Lundy, Bertrand, Deokar and Kauppila have all earned all-region honors by finishing in the top 25.
Georgetown won the race with a score of 66, while Navy was second as the pair both earn automatic bids out the region to the NCAA Championships. The remaining 13 at-large teams will be announced tomorrow.
