PRINCETON, N.J. (11/30/16) - The Princeton women's hockey team looks to move up the ECAC Hockey standings before the close of the calendar year. The Tigers have four points available as they travel to Rensselaer and Union this weekend, Dec. 2 & 3.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton is looking to rebound after two losses at Boston University last weekend that settles them at 5-6-1 overall. In the league the Tigers are 3-4-1. The Tigers average 2.92 goals per game and allow less, at 2.42 gpg. The power play unit has scored nine times out of 66 chances for 13.6 percent (20th), while the penalty kill has killedoff 44 of 53 for 83 percent (25th). Sophomore Karlie Lund has 16 points on 10 goals and six assists to lead the offense. Seniors Cassidy Tucker and Kelsey Koelzer follow with 10 points apiece with Koelzer contributing a team-high nine assists. Senior Molly Contini is one point back with nine, while the two-time ECAC Rookie of the Week Carly Bullock has scored five times and three assists. Steph Neatby took over in goal last weekend and has a .921 save percentage and a 2.56 GAA in 117 minutes. Junior Alysia DaSilva started in the first 11 games and has a 2.17 GAA and a .918 save percentage with a 5-5-1 record.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
Rensselaer is 5-12-1 overall and most recently split a series with RIT last weekend. In the league, the Engineers are 2-4 with wins over Cornell and Brown and losses to Colgate, Yale, St. Lawrence and Clarkson. The team averages 1.78 goals per game and is allowing 3.28 gpg. The power play ranks 14th nationally at 15.5 percent (13/84), while the penalty kill is 30th at 78.9 percent (60/76). Freshman Sabrina Repaci leads the offense with seven goals and four assists for 11 points. Senior Laura Horwood has eight points on three goals and five assists. Sophomores Makenna Thomas and Taylor Schwalbe chip in seven points apiece. Senior Hannah Behounek leads the defenders in scoring with five goals and one assist. Sophomore Lovisa Selander has played in 16 games and has a .916 save percentage and a 2.64 GAA. Sophomore Kira Bombay has made five appearances and has an .867 save percentage and a 5.37 GAA in 190 minutes of action.
THE PRINCETON/RENSSELAER SERIES
Princeton has an 11-6-5 advantage in the all-time series since the teams first met in 2006. Last year the Tigers won 3-2 at Houston Field House before they played to a 3-3 draw at home in February.
SCOUTING THE DUTCHWOMEN
Union enters the weekend at 2-12 with both wins in non-conference play over Penn State and RIT in early October. The Dutchwomen have lost the last eight games and is 0-6 in the ECAC. Union is allowing 3.57 goals per game and is scoring at a clip of 1.14 gpg. The power play has converted nine times out of 83 (10.8%), while the penalty kill has fought off 50 of 60 (83.3%). Freshman Haley Shugart has seven points with a team-high five goals and two assists. Senior Emily Erickson and junior defender Caitlyn McLaren have each scored twice and add three assists apiece. Union has used three goaltenders this season, all three of which are rookies. Kate Spooner has seen the most minutes, nearly 500, and has a .912 save percentage and a 2.85 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/UNION SERIES
Princeton has a substantial 24-1-1 edge in the all-time series with Union. Union's only win in the series was in Jan. 2014, a one-goal win. Since that time Princeton has won four straight, including 5-0 and 4-2 scores last year.
