Though the Princeton men's basketball team held a 3-point lead with just less than four minutes to go Wednesday night, Saint Joseph's stalled the Tigers there and scored 11 straight points on the way to a 76-68 win in Jadwin Gym on ESPNU.
Saint Joseph's scored 10 of the game's first 13 points and held a lead no larger than 11 points until the Tigers went on a 13-2 run just past the midway point of the second half to go up 64-61 with 3:58 to play on a pair of Amir Bell free throws.
But, that's where the rally ended as Saint Joseph's held Princeton scoreless for the next 3:26 as the Hawks put the game away.
Spencer Weisz finished just two assists short of what would have been the first recorded triple-double in Princeton history, nabbing 11 boards and putting in 10 points to go with his eight-assist, no-turnover effort. The senior was one of four Tigers in double figures as Devin Cannady led the way with 17 points, Steven Cook added 13 and Myles Stephens 12. Shavar Newkirk, Saint Joseph's' leading scorer on the season, put in a game-high 19 points.
Saint Joseph's outrebounded the Tigers 58-34 despite the game-high 11 boards from Weisz as six Hawks had at least seven boards.
Princeton will hit the road for a Tuesday night game at Monmouth. The 7 p.m. tip will be shown on ESPN3.
