Freshman defender Claire Thompson scored the game-tying goal with 1:38 remaining in regulation, an extra-attacker goal, to help the Princeton women's hockey team to a 5-5 draw with Penn State on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink. It was Thompson's second goal of the game, her first career multiple-goal game.

Senior Morgan Sly also scored twice as the Tigers outshot the Nittany Lions, 53-25. Hannah Ehresman stopped 48 shots in net for Penn State, who lost to Quinnipiac yesterday, 2-1.

It's been nearly three weeks since the last time Princeton played a game and it took the Tigers some time to knock the rust off.

Penn State took a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Meike Meilleur and Brooke Madsen coming less than three minutes apart. Thompson cut it to a one-goal with 1:03 left in the period, converting on a power-play opportunity. She let a drive go from the high slot with Stephanie Sucharda and Karlie Lund assisting.

Amy Peterson regained the lead for the Nittany Lions at 5:01 of the first, but it was short-lived as senior Molly Contini answered two minutes later. Kiersten Falck picked up a loose puck behind the goal and found Contini on the doorstep. She had to settle the puck with her skate before over the glove of Hannah Ehresman. Sly evened it at 3-3 with her first of the afternoon when she put in her own rebound after receiving the puck from Kelsey Koelzer. Her initial shot was saved but she picked back up around the net and wheeled around for the tally at 9:35.

Madsen added a power-play goal for Penn State at 14:13 but again it was Sly that responded less than four minutes later when she buried a drive by Kelsey Koelzer as the teams ended the second period knotted at 4-4.

A Laura Bowman power-play tally at 3:08 gave the Nittany Lions back the lead after her shot was initially saved by goalie Alysia DaSilva but then took a funny bounce and found its way into the back of the net. The Tigers challenged the goal as it appeared DaSilva could have been interfered with but the officials called it a good goal.

DaSilva made 20 saves in goal for the Tigers who are now 9-6-2 on the season.

Princeton faces Quinnipiac tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m., at Hobey Baker Rink.
