As Princeton resumes play after taking two weeks off for semester exams, Tuesday's game against Quinnipiac has major ramifications on the ECAC standings and postseason play. Both teams are tied for fourth in the ECAC with matching 9-4-2 records. They both will play the same six opponents as the league race heads into the home stretch, with the top four teams receiving home ice advantage in the quarterfinals.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers are riding a 10-game unbeaten streak, going 8-0-2 since December, with one of those wins being a 3-2 game over Quinnipiac at Hobey Baker Rink. The last time out Princeton topped No. 9 Colgate 5-1 on the road. Averaging 3.41 goals per game, the Tigers have the fifth best scoring offense in the nation, and the 10th best scoring defense at 1.95 gpg. The offense is led by sophomore Karlie Lund and her 35 points. She has scored 18 goals and has 17 assists, both tops on the team, and ranks fifth in the nation in points per game. Seniors Molly Contini and Cassidy Tucker follow with 21 and 20 points. Freshman Carly Bullock has scored 14 goals and adds five assists for 19 points, the same number of points senior defender Kelsey Koelzer has totaled to rank second nationally amongst all defenders. Freshman Steph Neatby is 7-1-1 in goal and has been named the ECAC Goalie of the Week the last five weeks Princeton has been action. She sports a .952 save percentage and a 1.40 goals against average, both of which rank second in the country.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Quinnipiac has been on a 10-day break, last facing Merrimack on Jan. 20 in a 2-2 tie. Since January the Bobcats are 2-2-2 and are 16-6-5 overall. The squad averages 2.54 goals per game led by junior Taylar Cianfarano, who has 21 points on 12 goals and nine assists. Sophomore Melissa Samoskevich has a team-best 12 assists and eight goals for 20 points. Seniors Emma Woods and Meghan Tuner follow with 19 and 16 points, respectively. Quinnipiac boasts the second-best scoring defense in the nation, helped along by senior netminder Sydney Rossman. She ranks fifth in the country in goals against at 1.54, and has a .919 save percentage in her 25 starts.
THE PRINCETON/QUINNIPIAC SERIES
The Tigers snapped a 14-game winless skid in the series with their travel partner when they won a 3-2 game at Hobey Baker Rink on Jan. 1. Princeton took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission before Quinnipiac net an extra attacker goal in the final minute. Rossman made 25 saves, while Neatby had 29 saves.
