Cannady Named Ivy Rookie of the Week
February 22, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Princeton freshman Devin Cannady scored 20 points in Friday's big win over Yale and added 10 Saturday against Brown. For his efforts, he's been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Cannady, who is second on the team in scoring this season (11.7 ppg), has piled up all his numbers as a reserve as Princeton has used the same starting lineup of four juniors and sophomore Amir Bell in all 23 games.
Over the weekend, Cannady was 8 of 15 (.533) from the field, 5 of 9 (.556) from beyond the arc and 9 of 11 (.818) at the free throw line. The 20-point game against Yale was his second straight, including a 23-point effort in Princeton's overtime win at Columbia two Saturdays ago, and it saw him get back-to-back 3-pointers to pull Princeton out of an early 27-21 hole to start an 18-2 half-closing run.
This is Cannady's second honor of the season. He was selected Ivy Co-Rookie of the Week on Dec. 28.
Cannady and the Tigers are in the thick of the Ivy League race at 8-1 in Ivy League play and will host another Ivy contender in Columbia Friday at 6 p.m. (American Sports Network) before Cornell visits Saturday at 6.
