Weisz Shares Ivy's Men's Hoops Player of the Week Honors
February 29, 2016 | Men's Basketball
For the first time in his career, junior Spencer Weisz has earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors.
Weisz was a model of consistency in this weekend's sweep of Columbia and Cornell, putting in 16 points in each game with seven assists and no turnovers in each game.
Weisz was a .647 (11-17) shooter from the field and .571 (8-14) from 3-point range while making 2 of 3 from the stripe. He also added eight rebounds against Cornell after grabbing four against Columbia.
He shares this week's honor with Yale sophomore Makai Mason, who also helped his team to a weekend sweep.
Weisz earned four Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors in 2013-14 on his way to Ivy Rookie of the Year honors, but this was the first Ivy Player of the Week recognition for the 2015 second-team All-Ivy League honoree. This is Princeton's third Ivy Player of the Week honor on the season, along with Amir Bell's on Jan. 11 and Steven Cook's on Feb. 8.
On the season, Weisz, a tri-captain this season, is third on the team at 10.9 points per game and with 5.4 rebounds per game. With 92 assists and 31 turnovers, Weisz is the Ivy League leader in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.0 per game.
