Caruso Earns NABC First-Team All-District Honors
March 25, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Princeton leading scorer and first-team All-Ivy Leaguer Henry Caruso was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches first-team All-District 13, the NABC announced Friday.
District 13, which includes the Ivy and Patriot Leagues, included six Ivy players among the 10 honorees, with Yale's Justin Sears and Columbia's Maodo Lo on the first team and Yale's Makai Mason and Brandon Sherrod and Harvard's Zena Edosomwan on the second team.
Caruso and Lehigh's Tim Kempton, both juniors, were the only non-seniors on the first team, alongside seniors Sears, Lo and Bucknell's Chris Hass.
Caruso is the first Tiger to earn a spot on one of the NABC all-district teams since T.J. Bray '14 was a first-teamer in 2014.
Entering the weekend, Caruso ranked in the top 10 in the Ivy in seven statistical categories, including seventh in scoring (15.0 ppg), 10th in rebounding (6.2 rpg), field goal percentage (.524), eighth in free throw percentage (.713), fourth in steals (1.3), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.446) and ninth in defensive rebounds (4.4 drpg).
Caruso's 435 points were more than double his career total before this season (179), a trend seen across his stat line. His 152 field goals, 94 free throws, 181 rebounds and 37 steals led the team, and all but the free throw total were at least more than double the amount he had as a Tiger entering the season.
Part of a junior class that accounted for 57 percent of the team's scoring total, Caruso helped Princeton to a 22-7 record, its most wins since 2011 and its first NIT berth since 2002.
