Princeton did its part Saturday night, rolling past Dartmouth 84-65 in Hanover, but the Tigers didn't get the news they needed from Manhattan to stay alive in the Ivy League race.
Yale's 71-55 win at Columbia wrapped up the outright Ivy League title for the Bulldogs at 13-1, with the one loss to Princeton. The teams split their season series, each winning on its home floor, but Princeton's loss at Harvard Friday night gave the Tigers one defeat too many.
The Tigers will close out the Ivy schedule Tuesday at Jadwin Gym against Penn in a doubleheader with the women's team. The men's game is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start.
Steven Cook matched his season high with 27 points in the win, one short of his career best, and Princeton led the Big Green by as many as 30 points. The key run for Princeton came before the midway point of the first half, when Princeton broke a 7-7 tie less than four minutes into the game with a 15-2 run that put the Tigers up 13 at 22-9. After that, Princeton's lead was never below double figures.
The Big Green were without rookie Evan Boudreaux, who stands second in the Ivy League at 17.7 points per game and third in the league with 9.4 rebounds a contest. Connor Boehm led Dartmouth with 18 points as the only starter in double figures.
Princeton had four of its five starters with 10 or more points and Spencer Weisz, who had a career-high nine assists, just a point shy at nine. Behind Cook's 27 points were Pete Miller with 11 and Henry Caruso and Amir Bell with 10 apiece. Weisz's nine helpers were one more than his previous career best of eight, earned in this season's opening game at Rider.
