Brett MacConnell Named to NABC's Under Armour 30 Under 30 Team
April 05, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Princeton assistant coach Brett MacConnell was one of 30 assistant coaches nationally named to the 2016 Under Armour 30-under-30 Team, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced on Sunday night. The event was held at the Cullen Theater at Wortham Center in Houston during the annual NABC Convention held in conjunction with the 2016 NCAA Men's Final Four.
MacConnell just completed his fourth year on the Tigers' men's basketball staff. Arriving at Princeton in the summer of 2012, MacConnell served one season as the team's director of basketball operations before spending the last three as an assistant coach. Prior to this past season, head coach Mitch Henderson named him the program's recruiting coordinator for his efforts in helping the Tigers secure strong recruiting classes in 2014 and 2015.
"I'm so pleased that the NABC has recognized in Brett what we see in him each and every day," Henderson said. "This is a terrific honor for Brett and our program."
Princeton's current sophomore recruiting class was headlined by Amir Bell, who has started all 59 games of his career for the Tigers. Bell was an Ivy League Rookie of the Year finalist as a freshman in 2015. The Tigers' current freshman class was led by freshman Devin Cannady – also an Ivy League Rookie of the Year finalist this past season. Cannady finished third on the team in scoring at 11.6 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point range, and 89 percent from the foul line.
The Tigers finished the season 22-7 and 12-2 in the Ivy League, earning an at-large bid into the National Invitation Tournament. It was the program's most wins in a season since 2011 and its first NIT bid since 2002. Princeton finished the year with an RPI ranking of 39th in the country. The Tigers look poised for a big season next year as they return their entire rotation and lose only one senior from the roster.
Among the other members of the 30-under-30 Team are Greg Paulus of Ohio State, Jon Scheyer of Duke, Jordan Mincy of Florida and Chester Frazier of Kansas State.
