Men's Basketball Set for Trip to Italy
July 26, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Four years after traveling to Spain and seeing Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid, the Princeton men's basketball team will head back to the Mediterranean, this time to Italy.
The Tigers will embark on an 11-day journey beginning August 20, starting in Rome and traveling through Florence, Bologna, Venice and Como before heading home on August 31.
While taking sights like the Colosseum, the Sistine Chapel, the Ferrari Museum, the canals of Venice and much more, the Tigers will face three Italian professional teams, including two from Serie A2, one of which is alum T.J. Bray's former team Junior Casale Monferrato, and one from Serie B.
Eligible for the trip are Princeton's rising sophomores, juniors and seniors, a group that accounted for 99.3 percent of the team's points last season, plus Hans Brase, who was Princeton's leading rebounder (7.5 rpg) and second-leading scorer (11.5 ppg) in 2014-15 and will be returning for his senior year this fall.
"While our team is already a close group of guys on and off the court, this trip will give them the opportunity to bond while experiencing another culture and great competition," Mitch Henderson, the Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 head coach of Princeton men's basketball, said. "We're looking forward to what we expect to be a great season ahead, and the opportunity to take a foreign trip, which we're able to do once every four years, comes at a great time for our program."
