Chacko Paces Women's XC to 4th Place at Fordham Fiasco

BRONX, N.Y. (910/16) - Senior Rachael Chacko finished in fourth place at the Fordham Fiasco to bring the Princeton women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish in the Division I race at Van Cortlandt Park. It marked the first race of the 2016 season for the Tigers.
Chacko clocked 19:29.77 on the 5k course and was followed by sophomore Anna Jurew at 20:13.08 to finish in 26th. Sophomore Mim Buscher was 37th at 20:4512 with classmate Madison Offstein eight places back at 21:08.92. The final scorer was sophomore Marie-Fee Breyer in 56th with a timeof 21:45.50. Junior Melana Hammel and Jackie Berardo finished back-to-back in the 22nd minute.
"The Fordham Fiasco provided an opportunity for the middle distance crew to compete in a low key cross country event," head coach Brad Hunt said. "We have one of the most talented middle distance groups in the Ivy League, and I enjoyed the opportunity to see their competitive spirit on the historic cross country course at Van Cortlandt Park. Rachael Chacko had a strong individual performance, as she competed like a seasoned veteran from start to finish. Wonderful to see Anna Jurew and company step out of their comfort zone to conquer the challenging back hills at Van Cortlandt Park. It was fun to see so many members of the team travel on their own to support the middle distance group in New York City. We look forward to competing at home next week against Harvard and Yale, as the team remains focused on being at their very best in late October and early November."
Overall the team scored 138 points with Yale claiming the win with 44 points. Fordham's Angelina Grebe won the race at 19:09.86.
Princeton hosts Harvard and Yale next Saturday, September 17 in the annual HYP meet at West Windsor Fields.
