Cook Earns Second Ivy Player of the Week Honor
January 02, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Averaging 18.5 points per game last week to help lead the Princeton men's basketball team to a pair of wins, senior Steven Cook has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Cook made a career-best 10 free throws on the way to 13 points in Princeton's 77-49 win over Hampton last Wednesday, and he went 8 of 11 from the field including tying a career best with six 3-pointers in a 24-point effort as the Tigers beat Cal Poly 81-52 last Saturday. Cook also averaged seven rebounds over the two games, coming within one of a season-best total with eight boards against Hampton.
Leading the team with a 15.8 point-per-game average, the two-time All-Ivy League honoree is scoring at the highest clip of his career after averaging 11.7 points a game last season. He reset his career best with 30 points on Dec. 20 at Monmouth, becoming the first Tiger in four years to score 30 in a game.
Cook has claimed both of Princeton's Ivy weekly honors this season, also having won on Dec. 12, and this one is the third of his career along with his first on Feb. 8, 2016.
The award comes as Princeton prepares to begin the Ivy League season Saturday against Penn at 7 p.m. in Jadwin Gym. In addition to being streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network, the game will also be televised on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia.
