January 31, 2017 | Women's Ice Hockey
Box Score
Freshman Steph Neatby earned her third shutout making 18 saves as No. 9 Princeton takes sole possession of fourth place in the ECAC with a 3-0 win over No. 10 Quinnipiac on Tuesday afternoon at TD Bank Sports Center. The Tigers also extend their unbeaten streak to 11, going 9-0-2 since December.
With all teams in the league being even with 16 games played, Princeton (14-6-3, 10-4-2) has a two point lead on Quinnipiac (16-7-5, 9-5-2) and are just one point back from third-place Cornell.
Â
After the Tigers defeated Quinnipiac 3-2 back on Jan. 1, this marks the first Princeton sweep of its travel partner since the 2008-09 season.
Â
Senior Kelsey Koelzer put the Tigers on the board at 3:25 of the second just three seconds after a penalty on Molly Strabley expired. Princeton killed off the two-minute minor before a lead pass from Emily Achterkirch was perfectly placed for Koelzer as she skated in and fired top shelf on Sydney Rossman.
Â
Karlie Lund net her team-leading 19th goal of the season at 9:07, a delayed penalty, extra-attacker goal. Lund was dragged down by Emma Woods at the top of the right circle but the Tigers kept the pressure going with a number of chances before Lund capitalized on a pass across the slot from Carly Bullock.
Â
Quinnipiac's best chance was a backdoor opportunity by T.T. Cianfarano three minutes into the second period that was stopped by Steph Neatby to keep the clean sheet.
Â
Senior Molly Contini made it 3-0 when she buried a Carly Bullock rebound at 8:15 of the third. Freshman Sylvie Wallin outlet the puck from the corner to Bullock who skated up the right boards and fired on Rossman. The puck rebounded out to the opposite side and Contini pushed it past Rossman for the tally.
Â
Quinnipiac pulled Rossman with 3:26 to play but could only muster one shot on goal as Kenzie Prater put it right in the breadbasket of Neatby. On the opposite end, sophomore Keiko DeClerck nearly made it 4-0 as she hit the pipe of the open net in the final minute.
Â
Rossman finished the game with 15 saves as shots were even at 18-18.
