No. 7 Syracuse Picks Up 1-0 Decision Over No. 16 Princeton

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Despite four saves from Grace Baylis, the No. 16 Princeton Tigers dropped a closely contested matchup vs. the No. 7 Syracuse Orange, 1-0, at J.S. Coyne Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Syracuse's goal came on a corner as Erin Gillingham deflected the ball into the cage for her third goal of the season in the 12th minute.
Princeton's first attempt came in the 15th minute as Julianna Tornetta's shot was knocked away while Ryan McCarthy couldn't connect on the rebound. The senior captain had another shot sent away from Syracuse's goalie Borg van der Velde.
The home team came out in the second half and forced Baylis to make three saves within the first five minutes. Syracuse also had three consecutive corners during a 78-second stretch, but the Tigers' defense only allowed one shot through that Baylis denied.
The Tigers had their first corner with seven minutes left in the game, but Julianna Tornetta's attempt was picked up. Princeton was awarded one more corner with 1:35 remaining, but Syracuse cleared it.
Princeton drops to 5-5 on the season. The Tigers will host Columbia on Friday (6:30 p.m.) before a matchup vs. No. 1 UConn on Sunday afternoon (12 p.m.) Princeton has won three times in program history against the No. 1 team in the country, the last coming against North Carolina in the 2012 National Championship game. Both games next week will be streamed on the Ivy League Network.
