Forrest Third at NCAA Regional; Tigers Take Fourth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (11/10/17) - The 2017 Ivy League Champion Gabi Forrest ran another superb race and finished third at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional most likely ensuring her a spot at the NCAA Championships. As a team Princeton was fourth with 123 points, a big improvement off of last year's eighth-place finish.
Forrest finished with a time of 20:12.2 and moved up 16 places from the 3500 meter mark, the last official split recorded, where she was in 19th place. Senior Megan Curham held her position steadily throughout the race in the 11-12 spot and finished 12th overall at 20:26.4. Both Forrest and Curham will earn All-Regional honors for finishing in the top 25. This is the first for Forrest and the third for Curham.
Freshman Sophie Cantine was the Tigers No. 3 runner at 20:55.9. Classmate Melia Chittenden and junior Allie Klimkiewicz were the final scorers, coming in back-to-back in 38th and 39th at 21:06.9 and 21:07.0. Junior Madison Offstein clocked 21:22.2 moving up 19 places from the 1-mile mark until the finish. Sophomore Rachel Granovsky took 71st with a 21:37.9.
Penn State won the meet with 31 points, followed by Villanova 60, Georgetown 109 and then Princeton 123 followed by Pittsburgh in fifth place with 162 points. As a squad Princeton was in the top six the entire race.
The top 2 at each Regional earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships, a total of 18, while 13 at-large teams will also be headed to Louisville. In addition the top four individuals in each region not on a qualified team will be invited, as well as two final individuals based on the remaining results across all nine Regionals. The NCAA will announce the selections on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m., ET.
