Verbeek Nets Game-Tying Goal at No. 7 St. Lawrence

Some points are harder to come by than others. Tonight was one of those nights. Princeton earned a point in a 4-4 draw at No. 7 St. Lawrence in its longest trip of the season - to the North Country, where it will face two ranked teams. Junior Karlie Lund scored twice, sophomore Carly Bullock added one, freshman Sarah Verbeek net the game-tying goal, while sophomore Stephanie Neatby stopped 29 shots.
For every goal the Saints scored, it seemed that the Tigers had a response.
Just 1:29 after St. Lawrence (6-4-3, 3-1-1 ECAC) got on the board in the first period, Bullock answered with her eighth of the season from senior captain Kiersten Falck. The first would be the only period the Saints would lead the Tigers in shots, 10-7, as Princeton (2-4-3, 2-4-1 ECAC) had an 11-10 advantage in the second and an 11-6 edge in the third.
Kennedy Marchment put St. Lawrence back on top at 3:42 of the second and teammate Hannah Miller gave her team a cushion at 9:49.
Princeton won the center draw clean on the next face off and junior Karlie Lund made it look easy with her third score of the year from Verbeek and Sucharda at 10:00.
A power-play goal from Lund tied things up at 3-3 at 16:52. Playing catch along the blue line, Sucharda fed Thompson on the right side and she one-timed a bomb that Lund redirected at the left pipe.
St. Lawrence took back the lead 22 seconds into the third period on a Justine Reyes goal.
Sucharda, who now has two career three-point games, both against the Saints, got into the action again on the game-tying goal. Trapping the puck in along the half wall she shoveled the puck towards the goal where Lund got it on the right side and fed it in front to Verbeek who went five hole on Sonjia Shelley.
Neatby had a big overtime period, stopping seven shots to hand the Saints their first ECAC loss of the season.
Princeton is back in action again tomorrow afternoon against Clarkson at 3 p.m., at Cheel Arena.
