Princeton Falls at No. 4 Clarkson
November 18, 2017 | Women's Ice Hockey
The defending national champion, and No. 4 ranked Clarkson held Princeton to just one point on the weekend, as the Golden Knights grabbed a 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.
Clarkson was able to get on the board at 7:11 as the Golden Knights took advantage of a bouncing puck. A breakout sent the puck bouncing down the middle of the ice and Kristy Pidgeon was the lucky recipient of the bounce as she had a give-and-go with Rhyen McGill on the 2-on-1.
With just 27 seconds left in the period, Princeton picked up its third penalty of the game and Clarkson was to make its third chance a charm. Neatby made a stop through a screen from the high slot but the Golden Knights collected the rebound and Elizabeth Giguere sent a cross-ice pass to Michaela Pejzlova who roofed one in at the back door with 2.1 seconds remaining.
Meaghan Hector scored through a screen and five hole at 1:56 of the third before Savannah Harmon intercepted the puck at the Princeton blue line and dished the puck off to Meaghan Hector to expand the lead 3:15.
Sophomore Stephanie Neatby made 22 saves in goal in the first 43:15, before senior Alysia DaSilva finished out the game stopping four shots.
Princeton was 0 for 5 on the power-play including a period of 5x3 action in the scoreless second period thanks to the glove of Shea Tiley. Tiley made 29 saves as Clarkson improves to 12-3-1 overall and 4-2 in league play.
The Tigers take a break from league action next weekend playing a two-game set at Merrimack on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24 & 25.
