Stephens, Much Earn Ivy Weekly Honors; Stephens Named Suburban Transit/GPT Athlete of the Week
December 18, 2017 | Men's Basketball
For the first time in four years, Princeton has swept the Ivy League's weekly men's basketball honors, this time courtesy of Myles Stephens and Sebastian Much.
Stephens' Ivy League Player of the Week honor is his second and first since Jan. 16, 2017, and it's the first weekly honor for Much. The last time Princeton won both awards in the same week was Dec. 16, 2013, when T.J. Bray '14 was the Ivy Player of the Week and Spencer Weisz '17 won the rookie honor.
Stephens led Princeton in scoring in both games on the week, wins over Monmouth Tuesday in Jadwin Gym and at Cal Poly Saturday in California. The junior forward averaged 17.5 points on the week, with 19 against Monmouth and 16 at Cal Poly, and 5.0 rebounds, matching his season high with eight against the Hawks. Stephens was on-target as usual, shooting .591 (13-22) from the field and .636 (7-11) from 3 while adding five assists with just one turnover and three blocked shots for the reigning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year.
Stephens was also named the Suburban Transit/GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week.
Much set a Tiger best with 12 points at Cal Poly and averaged 10.5 points over the two games, shooting .467 from the field and .545 from 3. Against Monmouth, Much set his collegiate best with five rebounds and five assists on the way to eight helpers against three turnovers on the week.
Stephens, Much and the Tigers will visit USC Tuesday at 8 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET as their five-game, 12-day California-Hawaii road trip continues.
