Princeton Wins Six Events at New Years Invitational

Results
This weekend, the Princeton track and field team hosted the New Year's Invitational at Jadwin Gym, it's first of two indoor meets of the season. Monmouth, Penn, Rider and The College of New Jersey all traveled from their locations nearby to compete against the Tigers.
With six first-place finishes and three second, the men's team showed showed they're prepared for a very strong season to come.
In the 60 hurdles, junior Sebastian Silver came in second at 8.29 and senior James Burns placed third with a finish of 8.41 in the finals. In the 60 dash finals, dual-sport athlete Charlie Volker, fresh off of an impressive football season, placed second at 6.86. In the same event, freshman Austin Carbone placed fourth directly followed by sophomores Daniel Afolabi and Joe McGrath.
In the 600 dash, junior Franklin Aririguzoh crossed the finish line in second place at 1:21.57. Princeton then grabbed places 5-6-9 with three freshman Sam Ellis, Joe Sartini and Drank Anzano. Senior Ramon Ayala was sandwiched in between in seventh place.
Multi-athlete sophomore Justice Dixon placed first in the 400 dash with a time of 50.79.
Senior Carrington Akosa placed first in the 300 dash, crossing the finish line at 34.70. Sophomore JC Colangelo also ran in this event and clocked in at fifth for the Tigers. Rookie Cole Sandvold took runner-up status in the 1,000 race.
Carbone, Dixon, senior Josh Freeman along with sophomore Connor Matthews made up the 4x400 squad that finished third with a time of 3:25.54.
Off the track and on the field, Orange and Black placed first in four of the five events in which they competed.
Sophomore Adam Kelly placed first in the finals of the weight throw with a throw of 21.32 (69-11.50) with senior Mitchel Charles taking fourth. Charles went on to place third in the shot put with a 16.96 (55-7.75) on his first attempt. Freshman Kelton Chastulik was fourth with a throw of 16.22 (53-2.75).
Senior Lane Russell is healthy and appears to be on track as he locked up a victory in the triple jump. After a foul on his first attempt he hit 14.77 (48-5.50)Â and then passed on his following attempts.
In the pole vault, the Tigers took three of the top four places led by senior August Kiles with a victory of 5.18 (17-0). Freshman Noah Hurley was third at 4.93 (16-2), while freshman Jack Cahillane was fourth at 4.65 (15-3).
Freshman Jeff Hollis looked sharp in the high jump for the second consecutive meet. He won the high jump clearing 2.04 (6-8.25) on his second attempt at that height. Classmate Jeffrey Lee-Heideinreich cleared 1.94 (6-4.25) to finish fourth.
Princeton will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 6 when it travels to Navy for the annual dual meet.
