Princeton Splits Series with Quinnipiac
December 09, 2017 | Women's Ice Hockey
Freshman Sharon Frankel scored her second goal of the season and sophomore Stephanie Neatby made 25 saves but the Princeton women's hockey team suffered a 3-1 set back at Quinnipiac in Game 2 of the series. Last night the Tigers earned a 3-0 shutout over the Bobcats with senior Kiersten Falck chipping in assists on all three tallies.
Kenzie Lancaster gave the Bobcats the lead just 2:55 into the game when she knocked in a Melissa Samoskevich pass from the doorstep.
Frankel evened the game at 3:57 when she was positioned perfectly on the left post to redirect a drive by Kimiko Marinacci. Freshman Shannon Griffin picked up the secondary assist on the goal.
A blocked Princeton shot on the power play resulted in a 2x1 the other way and Kenzie Prater and Taylor House skated in for a short handed goal. The goal appeared to be kicked by House, but it was not reviewed and the goal stood at 8:27 of the second.
Quinnipiac's power play increased the lead to 3-1 at 15:16 of the third when Prater's rebound found its way to the stick of Bonsteel on the opposite side of the cage and Bonsteel roofed it top shelf.
Shots finished 28-28, though Princeton had the edge 23-18 through the first two periods. The Tigers were 0 for 2 on the power play while the Bobcats went 1 for 3.
Abbie Ives who gave up three goals yesterday, stopped all 27 of 28 shots she faced today as Quinnipiac moves to 11-8-2 and 7-5 in the ECAC.
Princeton now 4-9-3 overall and 4-7-1 in the ECAC, takes a break for the holidays and returns to action on Dec. 30 & 31 hosting Boston University in a two-game series at Hobey Baker Rink. Those two games will kick start a six-game homestand for the Tigers.
