Women's Squash Team Improves To 11-2 With Senior Day Sweep Of Columbia
February 12, 2017 | Women's Squash
The Princeton women's squash team capped its Ivy League season and honored its Class of 2017 Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Columbia. The win improves Princeton to 11-2 on the season, and the Tigers finish the Ivy schedule with a 5-2 record.
The Tigers honored their seniors — Gabriella Garr, Ashley Richards, Alexandra Toth, and Maria Elena Ubina — prior to the match, so it was only fitting that the most dramatic match of the day belonged to one of the seniors. Ubina, a multiple-time All-America honoree, rallied from a 1-0 deficit and went into the fifth game before pulling out an 11-7 win to secure the victory.
Both Garr and Toth were also winners in the top half of the lineup, while junior Olivia Fiechter dropped only 10 total points at the No. 1 position in her 3-0 victory over Tanvi Khanna.
Fourth-ranked Princeton will conclude its regular season next Saturday at third-ranked Trinity in a 1 pm showdown. The Tigers pulled out a 5-4 thriller over the Bantams in the 2016 regular season finale, though Trinity won the rematch during the Howe Cup weekend.
Both Princeton and Trinity will be looking to clinch the No. 3 seed for the 2017 Howe Cup Championships, which return to the Jadwin Squash Courts Feb. 24-26.
