Weisz Earns Second Consecutive Ivy Weekly Honor
February 13, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Senior Spencer Weisz and the Princeton men's basketball team completed a perfect run of five games in nine days, and for leading the team at 15.7 points per game, Weisz has earned an Ivy League Player of the Week award.
It's the second straight weekly honor for the senior tri-captain, for whom three of his six career 20-point games have come over the team's last five contests. Weisz jumped three spots on Princeton's all-time scoring list with his 22-point performance last Tuesday against Penn and continued to close the gap on 13th place (1,207) with 25 points between the two weekend games against Cornell and Columbia to stand at 1,166. Weisz also entered Princeton's career top 10 in rebounding with his 14 boards over the week, now standing as the program's ninth all-time leading rebounder at 561.
The award is Princeton's league-best sixth of the season. Along with Weisz's two, Steven Cook has twice been named Ivy League Player of the Week, and Devin Cannady and Myles Stephens have been selected once each.
The Tigers, winners of 11 in a row and owners of an 8-0 Ivy League record, will head to Yale (Friday, 8 p.m.) and Brown (Saturday, 6 p.m.) this weekend. Both games can be seen on the Ivy League Digital Network and heard on Princeton's TuneIn radio channel, while Friday's game can also be seen on ESPN3 and heard on Westwood One.
