Cannady Earns Season's Second, Team's Seventh Ivy Player of the Week Honor
February 27, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Cannady now stands as the program's leading scorer on the season at 13.9 points per game. Friday night, all 18 of his points came from beyond the arc as the sophomore went 6 of 11 from 3. Saturday night, he came within three points of his career high, going 6 of 10 from deep on the way to 26 points. For the weekend, Cannady finished 15-29 (.517) from the field and 12-21 (.571) from 3.
Cannady is challenging career and single-season records for 3-pointers made. His 70 3s this season entering the weekend are already tied for the eighth-most in a season program history, and he's just five away from having the fifth most. Sean Jackson '92 holds the record with 95 3s in 1990-91. Cannady's 127 3s are the 16th most in program history, and Brian Earl '99 holds the record at 281.
The award is an Ivy-best seventh Player of the Week award for the team and second for Cannady, along with his Jan. 9 honor.
The Tigers will aim to keep their winning streak and their perfect Ivy League record going Friday against Harvard at 5 p.m. on ESPNU and Saturday against Dartmouth at 6 p.m. on the Ivy League Digital Network and ESPN3 in Jadwin Gym. Tickets for the games can be purchased here.
Princeton only needs one win over the weekend, or a Harvard loss, to clinch the top seed in the Ivy League Tournament, for which the Tigers are assured of being one of the top two seeds. Tickets for that are available by calling 609-258-5744 for Friends of Princeton Basketball members, Princeton Varsity Club members and Princeton Basketball season ticket holders. All other groups can purchase Ivy Tournament tickets at IvyMadness.com.
