Dartmouth led by as many as 10 points at the break, but the Princeton men's basketball team cut that deficit to one at the break and came out on top after a second half that saw neither team lead by more than six in a 69-64 Princeton win.
Spencer Weisz led all scorers with a career-high 26 points, bettering his previous best of 22 from his sophomore campaign, and Myles Stephens' 18 points were one off his career high of 19 set against Yale the last time Princeton played on Jan. 14.
The Tigers overcame a Dartmouth shooting advantage from the field, 49.1 percent to 43.3 percent for the Tigers, by committing just six turnovers to 11 for the Big Green. Those six were one off the team's season low of five set against Saint Joseph's on Dec. 14, and the Tigers were able to outscore Dartmouth 17-4 on points off turnovers.
Dartmouth's led by 10 points at 27-17 with more than seven minutes to go in the first half before Princeton went on a 7-0 run to pull within three, and a Devin Cannady 3-pointer as the final seconds wound down before the break cut the deficit to one at 33-32 headed into halftime.
Though the Big Green held a six-point lead at 45-39 less than five minutes into the second half, Princeton soon went on an 8-0 run to take its first lead since the game's early minutes at 47-45 with 12-plus minutes to play. Still, Dartmouth was up five at 52-47 near the midway point of the half, but a 13-5 run, capped by a Cannady 3 with less than five minutes to go, put Princeton up 60-57 and the Tigers never trailed again.
Following Friday night's games, Princeton maintained its lead in the Ivy League standings, now at 4-0. Harvard, where Princeton will head for a Saturday 7 p.m. game, and Yale trail Princeton by a half-game at 4-1. Columbia (3-2 Ivy), Cornell (2-3) and Brown (2-3) are in the mix for the fourth spot, with Penn (0-4) and Dartmouth (0-5) behind them.
