Tigers Visit Seton Hall Before Ivy Play Begins

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers will make a quick jaunt to South Orange to take on the Seton Hall Pirates on Wednesday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Week That Was:
- The Old Dominion Monarchs used a big eighth inning to rally and take down Princeton, 14-4, at Bud Metheny Complex on Mar. 21.
- Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Old Dominion scored 13 runs on eight hits, four walks and one error.
- Much like the night before, Old Dominion used a big inning to drop Princeton, 7-1, on Mar. 22.
- The first eight batters of the second frame reached base for the Monarchs, leading to five runs.
- Despite a three-hit performance from Asher Lee-Tyson, the Tigers were topped by the Navy Midshipmen, 9-5, on Friday.
- Trailing 6-0, the Tigers put together a crooked number in seventh inning. Three straight singles loaded the bases with one out. Lee-Tyson followed with lining a base hit to right field, scoring two. The next hitter, Zack Belski, also came through with a two-run knock, cutting the Tigers' deficit in half. The Midshipmen got out of the jam with a strikeout and fielder's choice.
- Behind stellar pitching performances from James Proctor and Ben Gross, the Tigers registered two victories on Saturday. Princeton won 4-2 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
- In game one, Proctor retired the last seven batters he faced and allowed just one base runner to reach second base after the second inning. He scattered four hits in picking up his first collegiate victory.
- During game two, Gross went 6 1/3 innings, scattering six hits, allowing two earned runs. He struck out four hitters in picking up the victory.
- Navy rallied with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Tigers, 8-6, on Sunday afternoon. Navy earned a split in the four-game series.
- The Tigers hit .295 as a team in its four games vs. Navy. Among qualified hitters, Nick Hernandez posted a team-leading .375 batting average and .444 on-base percentage. For the season, the senior outfielder is the only Tiger hitting over .300 with a team-high 19 hits.
- Zack Belski had eight total bases and four RBI, leading Princeton at Navy.
- With his three home runs this season, Belski has already matched his personal high. His 24 total bases and nine walks are the highest on the squad.
- The Tigers have had major contributions from its freshman class this season. David Harding has posted a .295/.340/.386 slash line with four doubles and three RBI. Conor Nolan has raced out to a .282/.364/.308 slash line in 12 games. Nolan has a team-leading six steals along with five walks.
- James Proctor has contributed a 3.70 ERA in four starts. He went the complete game vs. Navy on Saturday to pick up first career victory.
- Princeton's top three starters, Ben Gross, Chad Powers and James Proctor have amassed a 2.70 ERA. Gross sits with a 1.61 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings. Hitters are hitting .244 against the junior. A year removed from being the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year, Powers has a 2.70 ERA in four starts.
- Ryan Smith has been the Tigers' best reliever. In eight games, Smith has struck out 19 in 17 1/3 innings, picking up his first career save at Navy on Saturday.
- The Pirates are 11-10 on the season, having picked up wins over Michigan, San Diego State, South Alabama, Stetson, Florida, Manhattan and Connecticut.
- Seton Hall is only hitting .240 as a team with Ryan Ramiz leading the squad with a .275 average.
- Joe Poduslenko has a team-best .430 on-base and .429 slugging percentage along with 13 RBI and two home runs.
- In 11 appearances, Ryan Testani has a 0.43 ERA. He is 2-0 with two saves in 21 innings of work.
- Cullen Dana and Zach Prendergast have been the Pirates two best starting pitchers. Dana has 39 punch outs in 34 1/3 innings, adding a 3.41 ERA in six starts. Prendergast is 3-1 in six starts, sitting with a 3.44 ERA.
