PRINCETON, N.J. – The Yale Bulldogs swept the Princeton Tigers with two victories as Clarke Field on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs won game one, 8-0, and picked up a 3-1 decision in game two.
Yale 8, Princeton 0 - Game 1
Jesper Horsted, Asher Lee-Tyson and Conor Nolan had hits for the Tigers. Bryce Keller struck out the side in the seventh frame. Princeton had five errors in the contest, leading to eight unearned runs for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs scored in the first inning as Benny Wanger trotted home on a fielding error. Yale added another tally on a bases loaded walk in the second frame. Wanger's two-run double highlighted a six-run stanza for Yale in the fourth.
James Proctor, the Princeton starter, finished with four strikeouts in four innings of work. The Tigers' relievers, Trey Ramsey, Eli Kimbell and Keller shutout the Bulldogs over the last three frames, not allowing a hit.
Yale's Tim DeGraw scored twice and had two RBI. Alex Stiegler went the complete game for the Bulldogs in scoring in the victory.
Yale 3, Princeton 1 - Game 2
Jesper Horsted and David Harding had multi-hit games for the Tigers. Ben Gross went seven innings, scattering seven hits, allowing one earned run, earning a tough luck loss. Ryan Smith threw two perfect innings in relief.
Consecutive doubles for Yale in the third inning led to the game's first run. Princeton quickly countered in its half of the frame. A David Harding single was sandwiched between two fly outs before Lee-Tyson came through with a double to left center that allowed Harding to score.
Yale retook the lead on a two-out double down the left field line from Andrew Herrera in the next half stanza. The Tigers had a runner in scoring position in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames, but couldn't get a run across.
An RBI single from Yale's Dai Dai Otaka gave the road team an insurance tally. Princeton had runners reach second base in the eighth and ninth innings, but again, couldn't muster together a threat.
Richard Slenker and Harrison White each had two hits for Yale. Eric Brodkowitz went the complete game for the Bulldogs, finishing with eight punch outs.
The Tigers will head on the road for a non-conference matchup vs. Monmouth on Wednesday before an Ivy trip to Dartmouth (Apr. 8) and Harvard (Apr. 9). First pitch vs. Monmouth is scheduled for 3 p.m.
