NEW HAVEN, Conn. (9/15/17) - The Princeton women's cross country team had all five scorers finish in the top 10 to win the annual Harvard-Yale-Princeton meet this afternoon in New Haven, Conn. The Tigers totaled 32 points on the 4k course to outlast Yale's 39 and Harvard's 63.
"We had a positive team effort today against two talented and well coached programs," Princeton head coach Brad Hunt said. "Our depth is our strength, and we remain focused on building momentum throughout the fall. HYP is a unique atmosphere for the team to gain valuable racing experience as we keep the Princeton streak focused on the championship season in October and November."
Junior Brighie Leach took third overall as the first Tiger across the line at 14:00.4. Leach was a consistent scorer as a freshman when Princeton won the 2015 Ivy League Heps title and made improvements during her outdoor sophomore season just missing a scoring spot in two Heps events. The freshmen, racing in their first race of the season, looked impressive as Sophie Cantine was not far behind Leach at 14:02.3. Melia Chittenden was seventh at 14:09.1 with junior Allie Klimkiewicz eighth at 14:11.8. Junior Madison Offstein who was the top finisher at last weekend's Fordham Fiasco for the Tigers was a scorer was once again, finishing 10th at 14:18.6. In the sixth and seventh positions were junior Gaby Forrest and sophomore Madeleine Sumner as they placed 11th and 12th overall.
The Tigers get back at it on Friday, Sept. 29 at Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational.
