Future Looks Bright as Princeton Takes 5th at Paul Short

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (9/29/17) - With its three freshmen all grabbing a scoring position at the Paul Short Run, the future for Princeton women's cross country looks bright as the Tigers finished fifth out of 42 teams.
Princeton accumulated 232 points and was one of just two schools to have its seven all finish in the top 100. No. 21 ranked Utah State was the other school, and took the victory. No 15-ranked Villanova was second while No. 24 Mississippi State finished seven spots behind Princeton.
Freshman Sophie Cantine was the top Tiger finisher with a 6k time of 20:38 to take 32nd. Junior GabiForrest and freshman Melia Chittenden finished one second apart at 20:46 and 20:47 for 44th and 45th places. Cantine and Chittenden also had strong finishes at HYP as they placed 4-7 overall. Junior Brighie Leach wasn't far behind in 49th with a time of 20:48. The final scorer was freshman Peyton Brown at 20:55. Juniors Allie Klimkiewicz and Madison Offstein were the pushers, at 20:59 and 21:01 for 62nd and 67th places.
Four Tigers competed in the Women's Open 6k race, prior to the Gold race. Senior Melissa Reed was the first in Orange & Black across the line, finishing sixth at 21:13.
Princeton will compete at the Penn State National Open on Friday, Oct. 13 and host the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14. They are the two final meets before Ivy League Heps.
