Princeton Handles Early-Season Test With 7-2 Win Over #4 Stanford
November 17, 2018 | Women's Squash
The third-ranked Princeton women's squash team handled its toughest early-season test in style Saturday afternoon, as the Tigers defeated fourth-ranked Stanford 7-2 at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
"Today was a great win against a strong team," assistant coach Hesham Aly said. "The women got off to a great start by winning their first five matches and eventually winning 7-2 overall. Shout-outs to Raneem and Sam for great performances, and we're excited for the rest of the season."
The opening trio of Samantha Chai, Emme Leonard and Izzy Hirshberg set a winning foundation by sweeping each of their matches, and sophomore Raneem El Torky added one of the toughest wins of the day at the #2 spot, as she claimed a 13-11, 11-9, 12-10 win.
"I played her in my junior year of high school and she was significantly better than me, so playing her today and seeing the difference in my performance shows how all the hard work we have been putting in practice has paid off," El Torky said. "I was very happy with my performance today and can't wait for the rest of the season."
Princeton will make its home debut Sunday at 1 pm when it faces George Washington in the Jadwin Squash Courts.
