It will be stacked race once again at the 2018 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional as the Princeton women's cross country team battles for the title and a place in the NCAA Championships.
The women's 6k race will begin at noon on the Blue & White Course at Penn State on Friday, Nov. 9.
The top two teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA championship meet, which will be held Nov. 17 in Madison, Wisc. Additionally, the top four runners on non-qualifying teams will earn at-large bids.
The Tigers are the second team out of the national poll, receiving 13 votes, and are ranked fourth in the region. Ahead of Princeton is Villanova, ranked No. 8 in the nation, Penn State, ranked 13 and West Virginia who are receiving seven votes in the national poll.
Princeton, Villanova and Penn State have each won the region four times apiece since the regional races began in 2005. The Nittany Lions have won the last three years. Princeton claimed titles in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
The Tigers are coming off of a third-place finish at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships led by sophomore Melia Chittenden. She was the team's No. 4 runner last year at Regionals and once again should earn points.
Alie Fordyce, Allie Klimkiewicz, Brighie Leach and Madison Offstein are all seniors and all have scoring potential. Offstein has improved greatly throughout her career and was the team's No. 2 at Heps two weeks ago, while Klimkiewicz was the No. 3. Both competed at regionals last year with Klimkiewicz taking 39th as the No. 5 and Offstein 51st as the No. 6.
Freshmen Gillian Wagner and Page Lester have been consistent scorers all season. Lester has been in the top five in every race this fall and was the team's No. 4 at Heps taking 26th. Wagner had been in the top five all season, including being the top finished at Loyola but came up short at Heps as the No. 7 and taking 29th overall.
