Tigers WIn Five Events at Villanova Invitational; Akosa Runs Millrose

The Princeton men's track & field team won five events at the Villanova Invitational at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday.
In addition, senior Carrington Akosa competed at the 111th Millrose Game at The Armory. Racing against the nation's best in the Joe Yancey men's 60-meter final Akosa finished eighth with a 6.78. The favorite to win Jamaica's Asafa Powell was sixth at 6.69, while American Ronnie Baker took the gold at 6.48.
In the 60 at Ocean Breeze, junior Charlie Volker and sophomore Daniel Afolabi went 1-2 iith Volker clocking 6.93 and Afolabi a 6.98. He ran a PR in the prelims, a 6.95.
Senior Josh Freeman posted a 22.08 in the 200 to take third with freshman Austin Carbone clocking a 22.51 in his first time running the event as a colligate.
Freshman Sam Ellis garnered his first victory as a Tigers with a win in the 800. He ran 1:50.98 with splits of 26.494, 27.615, 28.447 and 28.419. Senior Garrett O'Toole was second at 1:51.27 with splits of 26.921, 27.573, 28.866 and 27.908.
Seniors Noah Kauppla and William Paulson also claimed victories. Kauppila won the mile at 4:01.20 with split times of 31.064, 29.462, 29.806, 30.501, 30.425, 29.828, 29.701 and 30.413. Paulson, competing in his first race since the cross country season, ran 8:12.53 to win the 3,000 and was more than two full seconds ahead of the second-place competitor.
Princeton took part in just two field events with sophomore Adam Kelly delivering with a win in the weight throw. He through a season best 22.09 (72-5.75) on his final attempt, with all five of his countable throws over the 20-meter mark.
The Tigers will return to Ocean Breeze next weekend of the Fast Track Invitational.
