Cannady Named to Henson Award Midseason Watch List
January 09, 2019 | Men's Basketball
Senior guard Devin Cannady has been selected as one of 50 players named to the Lou Henson Award's Midseason Watch List.
The award is given to the nation's top mid-major player. Last month, Cannady was named the Henson Award's National Player of the Week.
Cannady is averaging a team-best 19.5 points per game this season and has the chance to become the first Princeton player in nearly 50 years to score more than 515 points in a season or average at least 20 points a game in a season. He enters Saturday's game at Penn with 214 points.
Cannady is also on pace to end his career as Princeton's all-time 3-point leader, having drained 262 to stand 19 short of the record. His 1,438 career points have him seventh on the program's list, just 188 away from becoming the school's second-leading all-time scorer behind Bill Bradley '65. A career 90 percent free-throw shooter, Cannady will become Princeton's all-time leader in that category if he stays above 88 percent by season's end.
Nationally, Cannady ranks in the top 100 in seven statistical categories, led by his third-best 4.0 3-pointers made per game and his 24th-best .889 free-throw percentage.
The complete watch list can be found here. Cannady and the Tigers, who stand at 8-5 on the season and 1-0 in the Ivy after last Saturday's 68-65 OT win over Penn, will head down to The Palestra for Saturday's rematch with the Quakers before the finals break begins.
