Trio of Matches Ahead for Women's Squash Team on Season's Second Weekend
November 19, 2019 | Women's Squash
It'll be a busy second weekend of the season for the Princeton women's squash team, which will host Virginia Friday at 2 p.m., head to the Philadelphia Cricket Club to meet Stanford Saturday at 4 p.m., and host Drexel Sunday at 2 p.m.
Sunday's match will have pizza for the first 50 fans and cheer gear. The two on-campus matches will be streamed on ESPN3.
Princeton opened the season last weekend with a trip to D.C. and an 8-1 win over George Washington.
Virginia enters the weekend at 2-0 after sweeps against Franklin & Marshall and Richmond two weekends ago. Princeton has faced the Cavaliers in each of the last two seasons, first in Princeton and then in Charlottesville, and has won each by a 9-0 sweep.
The Cardinal are in Philadelphia for a season-opening three-match stay including Friday matches at Penn and Drexel before Saturday's match against Princeton. The Tigers and Stanford have played annually since the 2007-08 season, and Princeton had won 11 in a row in the series before the Cardinal defeated the Tigers 5-4 in the Howe Cup's third-place match last season.
Princeton and Drexel have played annually since the 2012-13 season, and Princeton has won all seven meetings with six of those coming by a 9-0 score. The Dragons are 1-1 with an 8-1 win over Franklin & Marshall and a 5-4 loss to Penn, both last weekend.
Following the three-match weekend, Princeton will be away from competition until a Dec. 7 visit from St. Lawrence.
