Women's Squash Team Sweeps Virginia to Open Busy Weekend
November 22, 2019 | Women's Squash
In the team's first home match of the new season, the Princeton women's squash team swept Virginia 9-0 Friday afternoon in Jadwin Gym.
"I was happy to see such a dominate result against Virginia," Tiger coach Gail Ramsay said. "Everyone was a bit nervous about the first home match and we knew Virginia had a good year in the recruiting department. On the court, Emme Leonard played a great match. She had to fight hard to get her rhythm and finally look comfortable out there once she evened the match at 1-1."
Six of Princeton's nine matches were 3-0 sweeps with only one, between top-of-the-ladder players Raneem El Torky and Virginia's Emma Jinks, going the distance. El Torky took the match 13-11 in the final game.
Princeton's Friday results are below:
Raneem El Torky (Princeton) def. Emma Jinks (Virginia), 3-2 (11-2, 6-11, 10-12, 11-9, 13-11)

"It was a battle and I fought very hard," El Torky said. "I did not give up at any point during the match and was very proud that I was mentally strong to come back from 2-1 down and win the match."
"The team had a great showing at the home opener against Virginia," Elle Ruggiero said. "I find that getting on court and hearing the cheers of not only my teammates and coaches but also my friends and professors keeps me energized and excited for each point. Their support off-court made it so much fun to play on-court."
