Men’s Basketball Suffers Setback Against Hofstra

PRINCETON, N.J. – Despite 22 points from sophomore Jaelin Llewellyn, the Princeton University men's basketball team suffered an 87-72 setback against Hofstra University Thursday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
Llewellyn pulled down five rebounds to go along with his 22 points while junior Ryan Schwieger added 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting with a career-high six assists and five rebounds. Senior Jose Morales chipped in nine points, four assists and four steals off the bench.
Llewellyn was on fire early for the Tigers, draining his first three-pointer from the top of the arc with 18:57 on the clock and giving Princeton a 5-4 advantage. He would cut through the lane and finish a layup with 17:40 left in the half and sink another three-pointer with 13:39 remaining in the half, but the Pride would take a 21-15 lead.
With 11:36 on the clock Llewellyn brought his tally to 11 points with another three-pointer, but Hofstra still held a 23-21 advantage. The Pride would then extend its lead to 33-21, but a Schwieger layup with 5:54 left in the half halted the run.
Led off by a senior Richmond Aririguzoh dunk with 4:27 on the clock, the Tigers went on a 9-0 run that featured a pair of free throws by Morales, an elbow jumper from sophomore Drew Friberg along with a Lllewellyn layup and a free throw by Aririguzoh that made it 35-33 game with 1:51 remaining in the half. Despite Princeton's late run, Hofstra would take a 39-33 advantage into halftime.
After halftime, Aririguzoh would complete a three-point play with 17:43 left to play and make it a 43-37 game in Hofstra's advantage. The Tigers would trim the lead to three points, 46-43, with 15:46 left to play after a pair of layups by Schwieger.
The Pride would race out to a 57-45 lead with 10:25 on the clock then would expand its lead further with 65-51 with 7:49 remaining. With 5:49 left to play Morales stepped into a three-pointer, but Princeton still trailed 69-58.
Despite a jumper from the top of the key by Friberg with 5:04 remaining, Hofstra built its lead to 76-60 with 2:50 on the clock. The Tigers did their best to cut the lead to single digits, but the Pride held on for the 87-72 triumph.
