Defending Champ Brucki Among Tiger Contenders as Midlands Opens Sunday

The 57th Midlands Championships opens Sunday at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill., outside Chicago, and several Tigers are high seeds with Patrick Brucki at 197 as a returning event champ.

Patrick Glory, ranked third in the nation by Intermat, is seeded second and will open in the Round of 32 against either Iowa's Aaron Cashman or Harvard's Beau Bayless. Should he advance to the round of 16, he'll face one either Missouri's Noah Surtin or SIU-Edwardsville's Tommy Dineen. Northern Iowa's Jacob Schwarm, seeded seventh and ranked 17th nationally, ad Northwestern's Chris Cannon, seeded 10th, are the seeded wrestlers among potential quarterfinal opponents.

Sean Pierson, who has wrestled at 133 for the Tigers this season, is in the 125 draw and will open in the round of 32 against either Northern Iowa's 12th-seeded Bryce West or Franklin & Marshall's Jose Diaz. Fifth-seeded and national No. 10 Michael DeAugustino of Northwestern is a possible round of 16 opponent, and Central Michigan's fourth-seeded and ninth-ranked Drew Hildebrandt and Campbell's 13th-seeded Korbin Meink are possible seeded quarterfinal opponents.

Ty Agaisse, who made his season debut in the team's last dual meet against Rider on Dec. 19, will represent Princeton at 133 and will open against Northern Illinois' Caleb Brooks in the round of 32. Northwestern's Sebastian Rivera, seeded third and ranked third nationally, is a potential round of 16 opponent, and Virginia's Louie Hayes, seeded sixth and and ranked 18th nationally, is a potential quarterfinal opponent.

Marshall Keller and Pat D'Arcy will represent Princeton at 141. Keller will open in the round of 32 against either third-seeded and seventh-ranked Josh Heil of Campbell or Northern Illinois' Nathan Swartz. D'Arcy is in the other half of the draw and will open against Ohio's fifth-seeded and 17th-ranked Shakur Laney in the round of 32.

Mike D'Angelo and Josh Breeding will represent Princeton at 149. D'Angelo, seeded seventh and ranked 14th nationally, will open in the round of 32 against either Cumberland's Tres Leon or Buffalo's Ty Raines. Virginia's Denton Spencer, seeded 10th and ranked 17th nationally, is the lone seeded opponent among D'Angelo's potential quarterfinal foes, and among wrestlers D'Angelo might meet in the quarters is Iowa's Pat Lugo, seeded second and ranked third in the nation. Those two met in the Dec. 8 dual at Princeton with Lugo taking a 3-2 overtime decision.

Breeding will open in the round of 64 against Iowa's Vincent Turk, seeded 12th, with the winner facing Northern Iowa's Gable Fox. Michigan's Kanen Storr, seeded fifth, is the highest-seeded potential round of 16 opponent, with MIchigan's Yahya Thomas, seeded fourth and ranked eighth, as a potential quarterfinal opponent.

Quincy Monday, seeded first and ranked fifth in the nation, will open against Northern Iowa's Keaton Geerts in the round of 64 with Penn's Carl Antrassian awaiting the winner in the round of 32. Monday's potential path to the quarters doesn't include any fellow Intermat top-20 wrestlers, with Central Michigan's Logan Parks, seeded eighth, and Virginia's Justin McCoy, seeded ninth, as the only other seeded wrestlers in that path.

Grant Cuomo and Conor Melbourne will represent Princeton at 165. Each will start in the round of 64 with Melbourne taking on ninth-seeded and 19th-ranked Philip Conigliaro of Harvard and Cuomo opening against Penn's Jake Lizak.

Among those in Melbourne's quadrant of the draw are North Carolina's eighth-seeded and 17th-ranked Kennedy Monday, brother to Princeton's Quincy, and Iowa's Alex Marinelli, seeded first and ranked second nationally. Cuomo's winner will take on Virginia's 10th-seeded Cam Coy with Campbell's seventh-seeded and 16th-ranked Quentin Perez and Wisconsin's second-seeded and third-ranked Evan Wick among the Intermat top-20 wrestlers in Cuomo's quadrant of the draw.

Kevin Parker and Nate Dugan will represent Princeton at 174. Parker is seeded seventh and will open in the round of 32 against Oklahoma's Elijah Joseph. Illinois' 10th-seeded DJ Shannnon is a potential round of 16 opponent, and Northern Iowa's second-seeded and fifth-ranked Bryce Steiert is a potential foe in the quarters. In the other half of the draw, Dugan will start against Air Force's Brock Jennings in the round of 32 with Army West Point's fourth-seeded and 11th-ranked Ben Harvey as a potential round of 16 opponent. Indiana's fifth-seeded Jacob Covaciu is a potential quarterfinal opponent.

Travis Stefanik will represent the Tigers at 184 and is the fifth seed, ranked 19th nationally by Intermat. He'll open in the round of 32 against Central Michigan's Ben Cushman with Iowa's Abe Assad, seeded 11th, as a potential seeded round of 16 opponent and American's Tanner Harvey, seeded fifth and ranked 10th nationally, as a potential opponent in the quarters.

Kendall Elfstrum, who competed for the Tigers last year as a sophomore, is in the draw and will open in the round of 32 against Northwestern's 12th-seeded Jack Jessen.

Brucki is seeded second in his quest for a repeat title and will open in the round of 64 against Indiana's Nicholas Willham. No other Intermat top-20 wrestlers are in Brucki's path to the quarters, but the seeded competitors in his quadrant of the draw include Bucknell's seventh-seeded Drew Phipps, North Carolina's 10th-seeded Brandon Whitman, and Central Michigan's 15th-seeded Landon Pelham.

Aidan Conner and Jack DelGarbino will represent Princeton at heavyweight. Each will open in the round of 32, with Conner taking on Iowa's 13th-seeded Aaron Costello and DelGarbino opening against North Carolina's 10th-seeded Andrew Gunning. Campbell's Jere Heino, seeded fourth and ranked 12th, is a potential round of 16 opponent for Conner with Northern Iowa's fifth-seeded and 15th-ranked Carter Isley and Army West Point's 12th-seeded Ben Sullivan as potentials for the quarters. SIU-Edwardsville's Colton McKiernan is a potential foe in the round of 16 for DelGarbino, and Wisconsin's second-seeded and fifth-ranked Trent Hillger and Illinois' 15th-seeded Luke Luffman are the other seeded wrestlers in DelGarbino's quadrant of the draw.
