Stephens Scores 21, but Tigers Fall at Harvard
March 02, 2019 | Men's Basketball
Â
Myles Stephens led three Tigers in double figures with 21 points, but it wasn't enough as the Princeton men's basketball team fell 66-58 Saturday night at Harvard.
"Kind of a slow start, but as the game started to pick up, we were able to get back into the game, started getting back to what we do best, and we just fell a little short tonight, that's all," Princeton assistant coach Jonathan Jones said.
Â
Princeton led by as many as four points before the break, but the Tigers went scoreless for the final 4:40 in the first half and four straight Crimson points allowed Harvard to take a 23-22 halftime lead.
Â
An early second-half 9-0 run put the Crimson up 32-24 three minutes after halftime, and after that, Princeton couldn't get the deficit under four points.
Â
Richmond Aririguzoh added 12 points for the Tigers while Ryan Schwieger added 10.
"We lost the game, but we learned so much from this and we're just going to take it all in," Jones said. "It's nothing to hang our heads on. We'll just stay with it and just worry about the next one."
Postgame Notes
• Myles Stephens' 21 points moved him into 11th place on Princeton's all-time scoring list, passing Bud Haabestad '55 (1,292). He is 13 points behind Geoff Petrie '70 (1,321) for 10th. The 21 points tied Stephens' season high from the season-opening game against DeSales.
• Princeton shot at least 40 percent from the field for a sixth consecutive game.
Â
• Ryan Schwieger's 10 points extended his double-digit scoring streak to a career-best fourth consecutive game.
