MacConnell to Participate in Collegiate Coaching Consortium
March 26, 2019 | Men's Basketball
Brett MacConnell, the associate head coach of the Princeton men's basketball team, has been selected to take part in the inaugural Collegiate Coaching Consortium in Minneapolis around the 2019 Final Four.
MacConnell was one of only 30 coaches selected from across the nation to participate in the prestigious event. The Consortium is a collaboration between AthleticDirectorU, the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Center for Sports Leadership. The aim of the event is to develop new leaders in the coaching ranks, focusing on areas including ethics, professionalism and leadership.
MacConnell, who has been with the program since 2012, has helped Tiger players to 15 All-Ivy League honors, most recently this season with senior Myles Stephens as a first-teamer and junior Richmond Aririguzoh on the second team. Princeton has earned two Ivy League Player of the Year honors during MacConnell's time, as well as an Ivy Rookie of the Year honor and two Ivy Defensive Player of the Year awards.
Princeton earned an at-large berth to the 2016 NIT and followed that in 2017 with a 14-0 Ivy League season, winning the inaugural Ivy League Tournament and capturing the Ivy's automatic NCAA Tournament bid, where Princeton took fifth-seeded Notre Dame to the final possession.
Even with the graduation of Stephens, Princeton is able to return nearly two-thirds of its scoring from this season, headed by Aririguzoh at 12.1 points a game and current freshman Jaelin Llewellyn, a four-star recruit who averaged 10.1 points a game in his rookie season to become the first Tiger freshman in three years to average double figures. At 55 assists, Llewellyn was also the first Tiger freshman in 12 years to lead the team in that category.
